Q: Can I remove the factory applied screen protector?

Yes. You can peel it off if you do it slowly and are careful to not damage the plastic screen mask beneath the screen protector.  Removing the screen protector might some glue residue, which you may need to clean off.

Q: There are specks of dust under my display screen, how do I fix it?

Dust under the screen is a common problem with the Tecra M4.  It is easy to clean. Procedure:

  1. Clean a work area to make it as dust free as possible.
  2. Shutdown your Tablet PC and put the screen in Tablet mode and latch the screen.
  3. Remove the four light gray rubber plugs at the bottom of the screen with a small knife or needle.
  4. Remove the two pieces of black plastic  (black triangle stickers) at the top corners of the tablet panel. They are just stuck on with double sided tape.
  5. Remove all six screws with a #1 phillips screwdriver.
  6. Notice the two gaps on each edge of the hinge side of the display, Use your finger nails to pop the first two snaps, it takes almost no pressure to release them.  It is ok to hear a breaking noise.
  7. Use your finger nails to carefully go along the edge to release the snaps all the way around. Make sure to get all the snaps apart before you lift the casing off. This way you’re less likely to break the plastic mask.
  8. When at the top edge, lift the mask towards the LCD latch.  There will be lots of snaping noies which is normal. Don’t bend/twist/force the screen apart. It all comes off with little effort.
  9. Support the screen cover with a flat book.
  10. Clean the dust off the screen.  You can use compressed air or a non-scratching dust free cloth.
  11. Put the screen cover back on.
  12. Power on the system to confirm that you have cleaned off all of the dust before replacing the screws and stickers.

Q: The video card manufacturer has newer drivers on their web site but states that they are not for laptops. Can they be used anyway?

The video drivers supplied by Toshiba ( or laptop manuf in general ) have been tweaked to perform with your laptop model's special features. You should use the driver set provided by Toshiba in order to use the special features like Tablet mode, power savings etc...
However, given that laptop makers can be slow in releasing updated drivers, their is a web site that dedicates it's self to this problem. They tweak the latest drivers available from nVidia and repost them on their site. If you have no issues with your Toshiba supplied drivers, then keep them. If you are looking for a little better performance with the latest and greatest drivers then you can get familure with the driver tweaks on their site. They also have other mobile driver updates like touch pads as well. The site Forum link is:

Open Questions:

On the M200 and M4, the vertical-display hinge (as opposed to the rotating bit) has the habit of becoming loose and the screen flips backwards and forwards by about an inch. This is end-user fixable. Can anyone get a link to a tutorial about this?
