Tablet Enhancments for Outlook:
Q: AOL came pre-installed on my machine. How do I get rid of it?
- You'll need a couple of files:
- aolunins_us.exe (175Kb) (alternate link)
This is simply a newer version of the uninstall file that I got from a junk computer that I loaded AOL on... (note: i'm guessing this is only for the US version)
(double note: if a mod or someone else has a better place to host this file, let me know. thanks.)
- MR Tech AOL Cleaner 1.1 (aolcleaner.exe, 40Kb)
For removing the bloatware from AOL (Coach, Deskbar, etc...)
- Unzip aolunins_us.exe somewhere.
- Run aolcleaner.exe first. It seems to use the original uninstallers if it can find them, and it removes some extra files that get left behind. But again, this doesn't remove the main AOL program.
- Reboot if needed. Run aolunins_us.exe, and it should detect AOL as being installed. Uncheck Downloaded files and Filing Cabinet files. Click through the rest of the prompts, and it may ask you to reboot again. It's up to you.
- Delete the following folders:
C:\Program Files\AOL
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\AOL Downloads
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
(It appears that the Viewpoint files don't get removed when it's uninstalled.)
- Delete registry entry:
HKLM\Software\America Online
